If you’ve been struggling towards a goal but not seeing much progress, then this idea might help you get off the struggle bus and onto the smooth train for a while (sorry, that was cheesy). Also, spoiler alert – the following blog post dives deep into the woo-woo pond, so if that’s not your jam, skip ahead, my friend. You’ll hate this one.
Desire can be a tricky thing.
It can propel us to take massive action, but it also comes with baggage. We desire something and therefore we attach an expectation to the actions we take to get what we want.
For example, we can kill ourselves with a side hustle, working to build traffic, sell courses, gain followers, and well, maybe all that hard effort pays off….
But maybe it doesn’t.
Then we get frustrated.
So we push more.
We work harder.
We invest more time and money into our venture.
But the more we work our asses off, the less progress we see. Why is that?
Because while we think we’re making progress, we’re actually creating the energy of resistance.
—> progress —> | <— resistance <—
All that pushing is really just resistance and resistance is the antithesis of progress and flow.
So… how do you stop resisting what you want?
Let it flow, do what feels right and let go of the outcome. Trust that it will happen. Trust the process.
It’s the same as saving money, losing weight or finding a life partner. If you want it too much it won’t find you. You have to let it come from a place of desire, but not expectation. Because expectation breeds disappointment and disappointment is really just another form of resistance.
So what does that mean in execution?
- Take small consistent action over sporadic grand gestures
- Do what feels authentic and appropriate and trust that the right results will come from it.
- Make it about the journey, not the destination. Find some pleasure in the day to day actions.
- Plant seeds and give them space and time to grow. Especially when it comes to relationships.
Understand and accept that the rate of success, growth, and return is not up to you. But the more seeds you plant, the more chances you have to win.
Let the universe work its magic.
If you want something, go for it. But take action that flows. Don’t do things that don’t feel aligned or true to you. In authentic action rarely works to your advantage. At the end of the day, if you feel good about the amount and quality of work that you’ve done, that’s the only thing you can really control.
Yes, this is total woo-woo, but it’s also the process of change and it works. It’s simply the process of managing resistance while taking inspired action toward a desired future state.
Now take a moment to consider what you might be pushing too hard toward in your own life. How can use ease up, release and let go for more flow?
Personal life example – In September I will have been blogging for 11 years. I love everything about this practice and my biggest hope is that one day I can make a sustainable living from it. So far, no dice and yet the more I push toward that goal, the further away from it I feel. So recently I took a step back to see what’s holding me back and sure enough, there’s a project I’m working on with my other blog that I’m not aligned with.
Arriving at that realization wasn’t easy for me, and it took a while to be at peace with the decision to let it go, but that’s exactly what I did. Once I did that, I immediately opened up more creative energy to serve my readers in a more authentic way and the difference was night and day – more engagement, more traffic, more revenue.
If you’re pushing too hard, step back and consider what you can let go of. Rarely is the best decision to take on more, so be careful that you don’t add just one more tactic or strategy to your plate.
Good luck and thanks for indulging me on the woo-woo stuff 🙂
